Full Story[]

The episode starts with a man named Steven, a former CEO of AT&T and current prisoner of The Wall. He appreciates his new life thanks to his pet mouse Molly, who produces milk for his fellow captives. He reminisces about his new life as Terry shows a zoo pamphlet to Korvo, Yumyulack, and Jesse in the background. However, other levels of the wall are more miserable, being subjected to slave labor to improve the lives of the higher class. Tim in particular is still being tortured while in prison. He meets with another arrested member of the resistance, Jean Pierre, who recognizes Tim and offers to smuggle out any other resistance writing he has for The Wall. Tim writes a new passage where he shifts his anger from Yumyulack for imprisoning them to The Duke for truly turning The Wall into a prison.

Jean fakes sickness to get the guards to open their cell. The two are overpowered until Cherie, having survived being thrown down the Boohoo Hole, arrives with two freedom fighters to bust them out. She leads the convicts downstairs to a replica of the apartment from Seinfeld, used as a base by the resistance. Cherie receives intel on activity in the upper levels as Terry and Korvo suit up in the background to capture a bear from the zoo. The Duke makes an announcement denouncing recent activity by the resistance as terrorists, and punishes the lower levels with double shifts. After which, he receives news that Tim has escaped prison, to which he orders Tim be killed. Tim and Cherie bond over their battle scars from the rebellion, and have sex as The Pupa watches and records it.

Tim and the resistance have a meeting where Tim insists they shouldn't be violent. He discovers that most everyone in The Wall has read Tim's letters, and has been inspired by them. Cherie encourages Tim to take The Duke's place, but he refuses, wracked with guilt that his actions have lead to the deaths of innocent people. They decide to discuss their plan later after attending a ceremony celebrating Jesse's birthday. The Duke takes the stand at the ceremony, angering Tim and Cherie. He talks up his accomplishments, while one of his henchmen tries to assassinate Tim with a thumbtack. A different audience member is killed, prompting panic in the crowd and leading to Jean being stabbed in the stomach by a second thumbtack. Tim tries to keep Jean talking until he succumbs to his wound and dies.

The resistance reconvenes with a nun from the Bowinian Church. Cherie insists on a violent uprising. Tim however believes they can unseat The Duke from power without betraying their ideals. The lower levels go on strike, and join a giant mob to storm the upper levels. Steven leaves Molly behind, assuring her that he'll be back later. Tim lights his underwear on fire to burn down the gates to the upper levels, the smoke of which enters The Duke's chambers. In a panic, The Duke floods the lower levels, killing many people as Korvo attempts to keep the family's newly stolen bear at bay with a broom. Tim's group climbs the stairs to avoid the flood, but Steven doubles back to save Molly. He tries to push her through an opening, but she cannot fit, and the resistance has no choice but to seal the opening to prevent the upper levels from flooding. Steven tearfully watches as his pet mouse drowns. Tim realizes that the resistance has no choice but to use force against The Duke, inspiring his group to fight for a future of The Wall. They continue to climb, but are ambushed by The Duke's men shooting flaming q-tips by crossbow, and throwing heavy objects down the stairs as people climb. Tim breaks into the chambers, discovering a hole behind his seat, and witnessing The Duke escape to the backyard using a Nerd Rope. Cherie arrives, realizing The Duke was able to use the hole to gather contraband supplies to control the people. Tim realizes that despite a clear escape, The Duke chose to stay in The Wall and cling to power. Cherie tires to encourage Tim to tell the people about this hole, but instead, Tim uses the intercom to announce The Duke is dead. Before Cherie can object to this, Tim stabs her with a toothpick, betraying her. Tim continues his speech, promising that The Wall will become even better than the Before-fore. As Cherie loses strength, Tim mockingly states the people don't need to know about the hole, choosing to build a safe new world rather than risk the people being eaten by owls. He thanks Cherie for helping him reach his destiny as ruler of the wall, and shoves her into the backyard to her apparent death. Tim pardons The Duke's former men for their crimes for his first act as leader, and declares a new holiday known as Cherie Day to honor her sacrifice in killing The Duke. The people celebrate Tim as their new leader, as the aliens apparently plot to steal a shark.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • The episode was originally titled "Korvo and Terry Steal a Bear" before the name was changed. However, when re-copyrighted again in 2020 after the episodes were released on Hulu, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation kept the original name when filing second copyrights for the episode.
  • The episode title, stills, and plot summary advertised by Hulu have nothing to do with the actual story. The only significance the title holds is that throughout the episode is through The Wall windows you can see the main characters grabbing honey and then later being attacked by the bear.
  • Tim reveals that his first name is actually Lindsay, and that he goes by Tim to avoid using what sounds like a girl's name.
  • The Solar Opposites have no audible lines in this episode, as they are only seen in the background of scenes involving The Wall.
